Six Things I Hate as A Lawyer

1. This comment, "Ballpen lang gani capital!" or its variation "Pirma lang, ang mahal naman."

Let me start by saying this: Education is expensive. Quality and long term education is  very expensive.

Law books are expensive.  BAR Exam review is expensive. Papers, printer inks, electricity, water and salary of employees are expensive. Treating stress related sickness is expensive. Need I say more?

2. "Atty. kailangan ba personal appearance?" in relation to notarizing documents.
This I hate because there are lawyers who notarize documents without seeing the signatories. So we end up with lots that are sold twice or dead people authorizing greedy relatives to sell their property.

3. Judges who berate lawyers for no reason or for reasons lawyers know nothing about.
Seriously! Mabuti pa sa bahay namin kapag pinapagalitan ka at wala kang kasalaan pwede ka mag walk-out. Sa korte you bite your lip and endure the humiliation as if all the humiliation in law school is not enough! And this makes me wonder because most judges do not berate for no reason.

4. Clients who expect you to draft a pleading in an hour.

Not all pleadings are copy paste thank you! I am not a Xerox machine that can spit pleadings upon pleadings.

5. Those who could not understand the words "I AM SICK."

I am a lawyer not a Goddess though I would like to believe so. Nagkakasakit pa rin po ako.

6. Clients with MA's Murag Abogado as consultants.

OK so you read a portion of the civil law. Oh God forbid you are the husband of a lawyer! Worst you had always dreamed of becoming a lawyer but had no time, money or will power to go to law school so you decided to play arm chair litigation.

I studied to become a lawyer for ten years. I will have two years of practice under my belt soon. A lawyer for a father. Three more relatives who are lawyers. Yet I do not dare to open my mouth for legal advice without analyzing what I will say and research if I find it necessary. :)

Today. Just today I hate my job. :( :0
